Multi-shaft Arrangement of CCP

In a multi-shaft arrangement, the gas turbine and the steam turbine, each will be connected to a generator separately, where the steam will be supplied through a common header into a separate, single steam turbine generator.

Using this arrangement, the advantages overwhemled the disadvantages and proven to be a better and more commonly practiced arrangement in the industry. Its advantages include:

• gas turbine can be decoupled from the operation of the power plant while the steam turbine is still in operation.
• steam turbine can also be decoupled from the operation of the power plant with the gas turbine still generating electricity in the plant operation.

This is only possible with the presence of two generators in this operation.
